Hey! In this video I reacted to exorcist Fr. Chad Ripperger on the Shawn Ryan Show. He said that during exorcisms, demons have revealed hidden sins of people high up in the Catholic Church. And honestly, something felt off in the room while I was recording. I even stopped the video early.
After the camera stopped, I couldn't shake one question: if the information is coming from demons, why would we trust it?
What Jesus said about the devil
He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.John 8:44 (NLT)
That stopped me. Jesus doesn't say the devil lies sometimes. He says lying is his character. So even if a demon says something that sounds true, the goal is never to help us. It's to confuse, divide, or scare.
To be fair, Fr. Ripperger said he believes God sometimes forces demons to speak. In the Gospels, demons did shout out who Jesus was. But look what Jesus did with that:
But Jesus rebuked him. "Be quiet! Come out of the man," he ordered.Mark 1:25 (NLT)
Jesus didn't take their word as a source. He shut them up. That tells me a lot.
Where I see it differently
In the interview, Fr. Ripperger also said that grace comes into the world through the Catholic Church. I have Catholic friends, and I'm not here to bash anybody. But as a Protestant, here's what I read:
There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.1 Timothy 2:5 (NLT)
Grace comes through Jesus. Not through any building, title or organization.
So should we be scared?
I said it on camera: "the blood of Jesus got me." And the Bible backs that up.
But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.1 John 4:4 (NLT)
So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.James 4:7 (NLT)
And when the disciples came back excited that demons obeyed them, Jesus told them not to get too hyped about that. Instead: "rejoice because your names are registered in heaven" (Luke 10:20, NLT).
Your turn
Do you think God ever makes demons tell the truth? Or should we ignore anything they say? Tell me in the comments on the video.
